CMC TOWER

Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania 2010

A 32 storey mixed use tower with influence drawn from many facets of East African culture and nature.

The humble yet complex termite mound inspires a double skin section. Thick walled Omanis forts and modern brutalism spark a heavy protective outer layer shielding an air gap and glass curtain wall that aids in natural cooling and reduces solar heat loads.

Colourful sky gardens (Kikois cloth and bead jewelry) combine with a central atrium to allow deep daylight penetration, encouraging a central stack effect. The tower is capped with a solar panel clad roof garden.
