MOUNTAIN RETREATKoh Samui, Thailand 2018A pristine 1.6 hectare mountain top site.The design of the individual pavilions appear like origami structures carefully positioned to retain the majority of the 150 existing coconut trees. The roof forms and cantilevered timber louvres take their inspiration from the leaves of the coconut canopy, whilst also enhancing passive cooling systems. Each pavilion reacts to its unique view and function and will serve as a private residence with it’s own spa, gym, library, reception space and yoga pavilion serving the living and sleeping accommodation. The collection of pavilions appear like a herd of animals grazing under the shade of the canopy above. The project will be completely off grid, including it’s own solar farm, rain water harvesting and grey water recycling. |
